In 2011, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh co-hosted the ODI World Cup, in which MS Dhoni led his team to victory. The teammates desired to bid adieu to Sachin Tendulkar, who was competing in his last 50-over World Cup.

In the 2011 tournament, Sehwag was a vital player in Dhoni’s winning run as India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to win the championship for the second time in the nation’s history.

“We competed in that World Cup in honor of Tendulkar. For Sachin Paaji, we won the World Cup. Today, Virat Kohli is the same. Everyone will work to support him in his World Cup victory. He consistently gives his 100%,” Sehwag said in an interview with the sports channel.

“I think this World Cup is in Virat Kohli’s sights. At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, 100,000 people will be present to witness you. Virat is aware of how the pitches will function. I do not doubt that he will score many runs and work hard to help India win the World Cup,” he added.

October 8, 2023, will see India’s tournament opener match against Australia in Chennai.
