AIADMK withdraws from the BJP-led NDA


The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, has decided to leave the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). They came to this decision after consulting with party leaders in Chennai. The AIADMK will now run in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 with other state-specific allies. The BJP’s Tamil Nadu state president, K. Annamalai’s remarks on C N Annadurai, a leader of the Dravidian movement, were the immediate cause of the tense relationship between the two parties. They decided in response to BJP’s state president, K. Annamalai, who accused the party of insulting Dravidian leader C N Annadurai and the late J Jayalalithaa. The AIADMK will now lead an alliance to take on other allies in the 2024 elections.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, determined to leave the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Monday and will now run in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 with other state-specific allies.

At a meeting with his party’s MPs, MLAs, district secretaries, and senior officials on Monday night in Chennai, Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS), the general secretary of the AIADMK, enacted an ordinance to this effect.

After the meeting, amid celebrations and the popping of fireworks at the party’s corporate office in Chennai, AIADMK deputy general secretary K P Munuswamy read out the decision: “To acknowledge the beliefs of our two-crore cadre, from today, the AIADMK will depart the BJP and the NDA.”

The BJP’s TN state president’s statement on C N Annadurai

The BJP’s Tamil Nadu state president, K. Annamalai, asserted remarks on C N Annadurai, one of the leaders of the Dravidian movement after whom the AIADMK named itself, were the immediate cause of the tense relationship between the two parties, according to the party. The BJP authority in the state, according to the AIADMK, has been mocking them for the past 12 months.

Annamalai refused to comment on the AIADMK’s decision

Annamalai, who attempted to mitigate the harm a few days before by asserting that relations between the allies are good, declined to comment on the AIADMK’s significant choice on Monday. According to Annamalai, the BJP national leadership will address the AIADMK’s decision. “I will discuss it later.”

After meeting with BJP national president J P Nadda in Delhi over the weekend, senior party leaders of the AIADMK decided to take this action, according to party leaders.

Munuswamy: “The BJP’s state unit insulted Annadurai, EPS, and the late J Jayalalithaa”

The BJP’s state unit, according to Munuswamy, “continues to insult Annadurai, EPS, and the late J Jayalalithaa for the past year, criticizing their ideologies and also demeaning the mega-conference held in Madurai in August after tribunals upheld EPS’ rising in the party and O Panneerselvam’s ouster.”

“The AIADMK will be the leader of an alliance to take on other allies in the elections of 2024. This choice is unanimous. Not even a single individual opposed this resolution,” he continued.
