Rajasthan’s Governor is likely to sign income guarantee bills


Rajasthan’s Governor Kalraj Mishra may sign the Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill, 2023, and the Rajasthan Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Bill in a couple of days, which received approval from the state assembly in July. Social activist Aruna Roy and a delegation of four met with Mishra to plead for their signature.

The gig workers’ bill aims to create a fund for registered platform-based gig workers and impose a welfare fee on businesses, while the minimum guaranteed income bill aims to offer entitlement-based social security to support people or households in an assured wage or social security pension.

Income guarantee bills are likely to get signed soon by the Rajasthan Governor

The Soochna Evam Rojgar Adhikar Abhiyaan will demonstrate outside the offices of all district collectors and SDMs on Tuesday in opposition to the postponement of the gig workers law and the minimum income guarantee law in Rajasthan.

The Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill, 2023

The Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill, 2023, and the Rajasthan Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Bill, both of which received approval by the state assembly in July, might get signed by Governor Kalraj Mishra in the coming days.

Subir Kumar’s remark

“The governor has the bills. This morning, Monday, he is in Bikaner. If not today, then possibly tomorrow or the day after, he will okay (sign) the legislation once he comes back,” according to Subir Kumar, the governor’s principal secretary.

Soochna Evam Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyan

Aruna Roy, a social activist, led a delegation of four that met with Governor Kalraj Mishra last Thursday and pleaded with him to sign both bills. Under the name Soochna Evam Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyan, the delegation also included Mukesh Nirvasit, Rakshita Swami, and Kavita Srivastava.

“The two bills get approved by the state assembly for almost one and a half months, but the governor has not yet signed either. As a result, the formulation of regulations and the application of these laws are still pending,” according to a press release from the Soochna Evam Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyan.

Protests by the Soochna Evam Rojgar Adhikar Abhiyaan

Tuesday will see protests by the Soochna Evam Rojgar Adhikar Abhiyaan against the postponement of the gig workers law and the minimum income guarantee law in Rajasthan outside the offices of all district collectors and SDMs.

Mukesh of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) stated, “Memoranda will get filed to the collectors and SDMs addressing the CM and the governor.

The gig workers’ bill

The gig workers bill states that the state will create a fund for “registered platform-based gig workers” and impose a “welfare fee” on aggregators (the businesses). Most Rajasthan Platform-Based Gig Workers Social Security and Welfare Fund will come from these fees.

The minimum guaranteed income bill aims to offer entitlement-based social security to support people or households in an assured wage or social security pension.
