Team Management Contacted Ishan Kishan : Reports

During the England series, Ishan Kishan received communication from the Indian cricket team management, as per reports. Notably, the recent BCCI annual contract list drew attention to the exclusions of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, key players in India’s recent plans. Reports and a hint in a BCCI press release suggest that their reluctance to participate in domestic cricket might be a significant factor in losing their BCCI central contracts.

The BCCI release hinted strongly at the importance of athletes prioritizing domestic cricket when not representing the national team. Ishan Kishan had earlier requested release from India’s Tour of South Africa, citing personal reasons, leading to his withdrawal from the Test squad on December 17.

Despite expectations that Ishan Kishan would engage in domestic cricket during his time away from the national team, he chose to stay absent from Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy matches. This decision, despite coach Rahul Dravid’s clear instruction that he needed to play some form of cricket to reclaim his place in the Indian squad.

Shreyas Iyer, dealing with an injury, also opted out of a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai. However, the National Cricket Academy’s report on his injury was reportedly contradictory, as per Indian Express.

According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, during the India vs. England Test series, Ishan Kishan was contacted by the Indian cricket team management. Reportedly, Kishan responded that he was not yet ready. This resulted in Dhruv Jurel getting the opportunity and winning the Player of the Match award in Kishan’s absence.
