Sunil Gavaskar’s Angry response to Rohit Sharma’s demand for a “3-Match WTC Final” was, “You can’t be asking…”

Sunil Gavaskar criticized Rohit Sharma’s suggestion regarding WTC Final

Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary batsman, criticized Rohit Sharma for suggesting to play a three-match series in the upcoming World Test Championship final after Australia captain Pat Cummins disapproved of it and said that each squad should be mentally fit before competing in such significant events.

India lost the second WTC Final

India was bowled out for 234 in the chase of 444 and lost to Australia by 209 runs in the WTC final on Sunday at The Oval.

What did Indian skipper Rohit Sharma say while addressing the media?

After the game, Rohit addressed the media and stated, “I am interested in the 3-Test game series for the WTC Final. Despite our best efforts, we only participated in one game. In the following WTC cycle, a three-match series seems ideal.”

Sunil Gavaskar’s frank response

Gavaskar told India Today that he disagreed with Rohit’s suggestion. You already know the final will only be a one-off match before you start the cycle’s first match. You must, therefore, mentally prepare.

“You don’t say best of three, just like how you practice for the IPL. Everyone is having a bad day or even a few bad days, but before the first ball of the cycle, you are aware of what it is. Therefore, you can’t be requesting a best of three. You can choose the best of five tomorrow,” he added.

Scott Boland’s brilliant spell in 2nd innings of the WTC Final against India

Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja were removed from the game by Australian pacer Scott Boland in the same over, effectively ending India’s chances after they were dismissed for 234 in their second innings on the final day at The Oval.

On the last day, India lost seven wickets for just 70 runs.

Australia was unquestionably the superior team on all counts, and India could only blame itself for another defeat in a major competition. Having lost to New Zealand in the WTC final two years prior, it was their second straight loss. India won its last ICC championship back in 2013.
