Storm Passed Away for NCP: Now What’s in Pawar’s Mind?

The two NCP factions maintain open talks to break the deadlock, with Ajit attending the NDA 38-party meeting and Sharad Pawar participating on the 26-party INDIA platform. The low turnout of NCP MLAs in the Monsoon Session of the Assembly reveals division within the ranks. The high-voltage drama of the NCP division

There is still uncertainty about what is happening between the two Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) units nearly four weeks after Ajit Pawar revolted against the Sharad Pawar-led NCP and headed his separate group to defect to the Eknath Shinde-BJP administration in Maharashtra.

To date, neither side has been able to demonstrate that they are the original NCP with the support of 36 MLAs, or two-thirds of the party’s original strength, in the House. No one appears to be eager to do that despite the first surprise.

The indications of a division

The two Nationalist Congress Party sections appear as maintaining their doors open while engaging in talks to break the deadlock while refraining from striking or dealing with one another. The two NCP factions differ between the Treasury and Opposition benches, and while Ajit recently attended the NDA 38-party meeting, Sharad Pawar participated on the 26-party INDIA platform. These are the only indications of a division.

Black & White politics

The low turnout of NCP MLAs in the Monsoon Session of the Assembly, with about half of the 53 not showing up instead of having pick sides in public, reveals the division within the ranks. Instead, the House saw a widely circulated image of Sunil Tatkare of the Ajit group and Jayant Patil, the senior Sharad Pawar camp leader, embracing and joking around. Due to the reason that Ajit and Jayant Patil appear as fierce rivals, the hug was all the more noteworthy.

Ajit rains funds

Ajit, who is in charge of the Finance portfolio, has tried his best to convey to the undecided NCP MLAs whom his side stands for. He generously distributed development funds, ranging from Rs 25 to Rs 40 crore, to all MLAs (on both sides of the Sena and Nationalist Congress Party) in the supplemental financial demands he recently presented in the House, leaving only the Congress out in the cold.

NCP MLA observation

“Ajit has administrators, whereas Pawar has an inheritance and widespread support from the public. Their MLAs and leaders will have to wait for the result in a game of patience,” according to an NCP MLA connected to the Pawar faction.
Senior leader Sharad Pawar announced a fight back against Ajit’s government, claiming support from over 40 MLAs. Since then, Pawar has kept a low profile, and his organized statewide tour gets postponed due to persistent rain.
