North East Express derailed leave six people dead and 100 injured


A North East Express train derailed in Bihar, killing six people and injuring 100 others, near Raghunathpur station. The train was heading to Kamakhya in Assam from Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi. “Emergency response agencies were at the scene, and the injured gets transported to AIIMS, Patna,” according to Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey.

To accelerate the relief effort, Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, kept in touch with the local government, the Disaster Management Department, and the Health Department. The incident diverted several passenger and goods trains, and senior railway officials are investigating the cause of the derailment.

Following the Wednesday derailment of the North East Express in Bihar, at least six people lost their lives, and about 100 others got hurt. In the Buxar district of Bihar, roughly 12 coaches of the North-East Superfast train derailed.

An official reported that the incident happened around 9:35 p.m. near Raghunathpur station in Buxar. The train was traveling to Kamakhya near Guwahati in Assam when it left Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi.

Railway official’s remark

ANI cited a railway official saying, “Some coaches of train number 12506 North East Express departing from Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya derailed at 21.35 today near Raghunathpur station of Danapur division.”

The emergency response agencies were present at the location

Speaking to the news agency about the accident, Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey said that teams from the federal and state disaster response agencies were already at the scene. He added that the wounded would get transported to AIIMS, Patna.

The deputy chief minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav’s statement

Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, reported that he had conversations with the local authorities of Buxar and Bhojpur along with the Disaster Management Department and the Health Department to expedite the relief and rescue efforts.

Assam Chief Minister’s office remark

The office of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also declared that it is “properly observing the tragic derailment” of the train in Raghunathpur. They continued by saying they were in contact with other agencies and the Buxar district government.

The official account of Chief Minister Assam tweeted on X, “The Chief Minister’s Office is in close contact with other agencies and is keeping a close eye on the regrettable derailment of Train Number 12506 in Raghunathpur.”

Several passenger and goods trains got diverted because of the incident, which halted motion on both up and down tracks. Senior railway officials are now at the accident scene and investigating the cause of the derailment as work gets done to reattach the coaches to the paths.
