IPL 2023: Shubhman and Tewatia Take Titans To A 6 Wickets On Punjab

On Thursday at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium, the Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS) with relative ease. The visitors won the game after Rahul Tewatia scored the winning runs off the penultimate pitch of the contest, handing the hosts their second straight defeat in the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Shubman Gill, who scored 67 runs in 49 deliveries thanks to seven boundaries and a single six, guided the Titans through the majority of the innings as they chased 154.

He and fellow opener Wriddhiman Saha quickly put together a 48-run stand, during which the seasoned wicketkeeper hit five boundaries on his way to scoring 30 runs off just 19 deliveries.

After the pair put up 48 runs for the first wicket, Gill took over most of the batting duties and skillfully led the Titans toward the target with only fleeting inputs from the remaining members of the attacking lineup.

Gill was unfazed by anything the Punjab team threw at him while he was playing on his home pitch in Mohali. He had a keen understanding of the dynamics of the game, and to control the required run rate, he took regular singles in addition to the occasional boundary. Gujarat benefited because they were always in front of the chase and never let Punjab’s expert bowling get on top of them because the target wasn’t steep enough to force him into taking needless risks.

Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, and Sam Curran make up PBKS’s excellent death bowling trio, but the Titans didn’t save much for the end of the innings, which allowed them to handle the pace trio’s fury with ease.

Earlier, PBKS struggled their way to a score of 153, which was a pitiful result on the provided track. With 36 runs, Matt Short was the team’s top scorer, but others like Jitesh Sharma (25), Bhanuka Rajapaksa (20), Shahrukh Khan (22), and Sam Curran (22) were unable to build on strong starts to contribute to Punjab’s more commanding total. The Titans discovered a strange ball star in pacer Mohit Sharma, who finished the game with stats of 4-0-18-2.

To ensure that his team had a very reachable score in sight to earn two points on the evening, Mohit dismissed Jitesh and Curran and stopped the flow of runs toward the end. A bad day with the bat prevented Punjab’s captain Shikhar Dhawan (8) and opener Prabhsimran Singh (0) from putting up a competitive total.

What Comes Next?
The Titans will play the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, while Punjab will play the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Sports City on Saturday.
