The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) is now the Prime Ministers’ Memorial Museum and Library (PMML) since Monday, according to the Centre.

Gandhi claimed that Nehru-ji’s accomplishments, not his name, made him famous. Jairam Ramesh, a congressman, criticized the government for renaming the museum and asserted that PM Modi would never be able to erase Nehru’s legacy. The change caused a verbal spat between the BJP and opposition parties, with BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, alleging that Congress only cares about Nehru and his family.

“Nehru-ji ki pehchaan unke karam hai, unke naam nahi (Nehru-ji is famous for his accomplishments and not his name),” Mr. Gandhi said in an interview with ANI at the Delhi airport before leaving for a two-day trip to Leh.

Congressman Jairam Ramesh lashed out at the government on Wednesday over the formal renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) in the nation’s capital, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi could never erase Jawaharlal Nehru’s enormous legacy to the nation’s freedom struggle.

On Wednesday, Mr. Ramesh wrote on his official account on X, formerly Twitter, “From today, a legendary structure gets a fresh name. Prime Ministers’ Memorial Museum and Library (PMML) replaces the famous Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML). Mr. Modi has huge worries, complexes, and anxieties, particularly with our first PM. He has only ever wanted to deny, misrepresent, disparage, and overthrow Nehru and the Nehruvian heritage.”

The BJP and the opposition parties engaged in a verbal battle over the change of the Nehru Memorial Museum’s name to the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library.
