G-20 Summit: Supreme Court Metro Stations will Stay Shut Down


Supreme Court metro station in Delhi will remain closed during the G-20 summit. The Metro authorities located 39 “vulnerable” stations where authorities imposed a temporary entry/exit ban due to VIP movement and safety protocols. The Metro will also sell Tourist Smart Cards through designated blocks at 36 stations from the 4-13 of this month, offering unlimited rides throughout the metro network.

The cards will be available in two categories with one-day and three-day validity. The one-day cost is Rs 200, while the three-day card is Rs 500, with a 50 rupee refundable security deposit included. The Delhi Police has been training personnel stationed at various locations before and during the summit.

“The gates of 49 metro stations would stay closed during the period,” according to an earlier Delhi Metro advisory.

New announcement

According to a new announcement on Monday, the Supreme Court metro station in Delhi (previously known as Pragati Maidan) will remain closed during the G20 Summit.

Temporary entry/exit ban

According to the route taken by the caravans carrying the G-20 VIPs, the Delhi Metro officials discovered 39 “vulnerable” stations where authorities imposed a temporary entry/exit ban.

SS Yadav’s remark

“Due to VIP movement and safety protocols, gates at stations can stay closed for 10 to 15 minutes. However, other than at Pragati Maidan (Supreme Court), there won’t be any changes to other stations’ metro service,” according to Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) SS Yadav.

Tourist Smart Cards

The Delhi Metro will sell “Tourist Smart Cards” through designated blocks at 36 stations from September 4–13 in anticipation of increased passenger traffic for the G20 Summit, officials told news agency PTI. These cards, which offer “unlimited rides” throughout the metro network, will become available in two categories with one-day and three-day validity.

Devoted counters became inaugurated for selling Tourist Smart Cards for ten days starting Monday because of the G20 Summit. They are still available on regular days, a senior official stated.

Main Objectives of the Special Counters

According to the official, the purpose of the special counters is to “ease G-20 representatives and foreign tourists who are likely planning on visiting the major tourist attractions of the capital city as they arrive in Delhi, due to the upcoming G-20 Summit.”

The one-day cost is Rs 200, while the three-day card is Rs 500. A 50 rupee refundable security deposit will remain included in this amount, according to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

36 locations where these cards will be available

Akshardham, Central Secretariat, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, Hauz Khas, ITO, Kalkaji Mandir, Kashmere Gate, Lok Kalyan Marg, Nehru Place, New Delhi, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Udyog Bhawan, Supreme Court, and Terminal 1 of IGI Airport are among the 36 locations where these cards will be available for sold through designated counters.

G-20 summit

Leaders and delegates from 40 nations, including the 20 member states, will attend the two-day G-20 summit beginning September 9. Numerous heads of state are due to participate in the G-20 Leaders’ Summit, including French President Emmanuel Macron, US President Joe Biden, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Delhi Police, which only recently began seriously preparing for the G20 Summit, has been providing training to personnel who will become stationed at various locations both before and during the crucial summit.
