Asian Games 2023 : India Clinched its Fifth Gold Medal in Shooting


India emerged as a dominant force at the Asian Games 2023, winning 27 medals in various sports. The Indian shooters, including Akhil Sheoran, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Swapnil Kusale, achieved a world record score of 1769 in the men’s 50m rifle 3-positions event, claiming the top podium position. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the shooters for their impressive performance.

In the women’s 10m air pistol women’s event, Indian shooters Palak and Esha Singh won gold and silver medals in the individual finals. The Indian shooting squad, including Palak, Esha Singh, and Divya Thadigol, won silver in the team 10m air pistol competition. India now holds seven gold, nine silver, and eleven bronze medals, moving ahead of Uzbekistan to take fourth place.

Akhil Sheoran, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Swapnil Kusale won the gold Friday morning in the 50-meter rifle 3-position team competition. Divya Thadigol, Esha Singh, and Palak had previously won silver in the 10m Air Pistol Team Women team competition.

The Asian Games 2023

India recognized itself at the Asian Games 2023 by dominating in particular sports, with 27 medals. Until Friday morning, shooting had won five gold medals, while cricket and equestrian had each won one.

India’s best performance in the Asian Games

Indian shooters sparkled brightly on Friday, winning two gold and two silver medals to raise their total at the 19th Asian Games to 27, making it the best-ever showing for a single edition of the continental competition.

The men’s 50m rifle 3-position team

The vibrant young trio of Akhil Sheoran (587), Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar (591), and Swapnil Kusale (591) competed in the men’s 50m rifle 3-positions event. With a world record score of 1769, the Indian trailblazers easily defeated the Chinese challenge to claim the top podium position. Their explosive performance put their Chinese rivals at 1763 points.

PM Modi congratulated the shooters

The Indian shooters received congratulations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their incredible victory. “A remarkable conquest, an esteemed Gold, and a world record! Congrats to the Men’s 50m Rifle 3Ps team event at the Asian Games: @KusaleSwapnil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Akhil Sheoran. They have exhibited exceptional tenacity and cooperation,” PM Modi stated on X.

The 10m air pistol women’s event

At the Asian Games 2023, Indian shooters Palak and Esha Singh took home gold and silver medals in the women’s 10m air pistol individual final, respectively. Esha Singh, 18, scored 239.7, while 17-year-old Palak snapped the Asian Games record with a score of 242.1.

The 10m air pistol women’s team event

The Indian shooting team, which included Palak, Esha Singh, and Divya Thadigol, won silver in the women’s team 10m air pistol competition.

Tennis

Tennis pros Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan take home the silver medal after losing in their men’s doubles final. Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale, who prevailed in their semifinal match, might win bronze.

India now has seven gold, nine silver, and eleven bronze medals, moving them ahead of Uzbekistan to take fourth place. There are currently 31 medals in Uzbekistan’s collection, including six gold ones.
