Asia Cup 2023 | Ind vs SL – Mohammed Siraj Magic Spell destroys Sri Lanka

In the Asia Cup match, Rohit Sharma and his Indian team defeated Sri Lanka in a thrilling contest. Mohammed Siraj’s hat-trick ball in the fourth over was the most iconic moment of the match. Siraj eliminated Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Charith Asalanka, destroying Sri Lanka at 8/4. The team was off-guard, but Siraj continued to score, causing chaos and causing Sri Lanka to land at 12/5.

The “Miya Magic” hashtag first appeared on Twitter in August 2021, referring to Mohammed Siraj’s performance in a 270-run chase against England. He led the charge in the third-shortest ODI in history, Sri Lanka’s second-lowest ODI total, the lowest score in an ODI championship, and the shortest-finished ODI innings. This match marked a significant moment in the Indian cricket world.

Mohammed Siraj Miya Magic stuns Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup Final

Mohammed Siraj bowled a legendary spell in the Asia Cup final that completely floored Sri Lanka.

India ended a five-year drought

Rohit Sharma and co. ends team India five year drought of not winning any ICC tournament. Also, India won the match in historic manner. With lethal bowling from Siraj, Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, SL managed to score just 50 runs. This is the lowest ever score recorded in Asia Cup history.

The hat-trick ball moment for Mohammed Siraj

The hat-trick ball from Mohammed Siraj, which became the most iconic moment of the match, occurred in the fourth over. The mid-on fielder disappeared as a jam-packed slip cordon awaited an edge. Dhananjaya de Silva, the man facing the flames, drove a full delivery through the space.

Ishan Kishan, who stood at mid-wicket, started the chase, but Siraj soon outran him after deciding to go himself after the ball. Siraj was currently in the center of his second over and bowling with a strong run-up at a pace of over 140 clicks.

But it made no difference. Before sprinting to the long-on boundary, Siraj eliminated Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Charith Asalanka and destroyed Sri Lanka at 8/4. Even though it was apparent the ball would eventually reach the rope, Siraj continued until it did. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli could not control their laughter at slips.

Sri Lanka got off guard

Two minutes later, Siraj sprinted in with the same ferocity, forcing de Silva to drive and giving KL Rahul a thin edge he could easily hold onto. Sri Lanka landed at 12/5. There was utter chaos. Sri Lanka had yet to learn when something smashed them.

The “Miya Magic”

The “Miya Magic” hashtag first appeared on Twitter (now X) in August 2021. Siraj, known to his teammates as “Miya,” finished off England for 120 runs in a 270-run chase to lead India to a memorable victory at Lord’s. About two years later, the same magic was in full force – quite literally – and Sri Lanka eliminated India from last year’s Asia Cup, despite doing so in a Test match against a weaker team than England on their home ground.

Siraj gradually ascended the ODI rungs, becoming the world No. 1 earlier this year. Siraj was not a part of India’s T20I setup because the team management relied on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami.

The third-shortest ODI in history, Sri Lanka’s second-lowest ODI total, the lowest score in an ODI championship, the shortest finished ODI innings… Mohammed Siraj was leading the charge.
