3 Back-to-Back Earthquakes Strike Jaipur


On 21 July 2023 4.09 am, Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, experienced its first earthquake. On Richter scale magnitude was 4.4, at a depth of 10 km. Within 30 minutes, 3 back-to-back earthquakes strike Jaipur. The most recent one, measuring 3.4, occurred at around 4.25 am, with a depth of 10 km. The second earthquake, 3.1, occurred at 4.22 am, with a depth of 5 km. There are currently no known reports of fatalities or damages. Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje tweeted about the shakings, while Rajasthan’s minister of tourism and civil aviation, Murari Lal Meena, expressed concern for the safety of the people.

Vasundhara Raje, a former chief minister of Rajasthan, tweeted in response to the shakes, saying, “People have felt earthquake vibrations at various locations in the state, including Jaipur. I hope everyone is secure.”

Earthquakes in Jaipur in the early morning

“Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, suffered from an earthquake with a Richter scale magnitude of 4.4,” according to the National Centre for Seismology.

According to the report, the earthquake struck at 4:09 am on July 21, 2023, at a depth of 10 km, about 9 km from Jaipur.

Early on Friday, within 30 minutes, Jaipur experienced three earthquakes.

First Earthquake

Before that, a 10-kilometer-deep earthquake echoed at 4.09 am.

In a tweet, the NCS stated, “On 21-07-2023, 04:09:38 IST, Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Depth: 10 Km, Lat: 26.88 & Long: 75.70, Jaipur, Rajasthan, is the location.”

There are currently no known reports of fatalities or damages.

Second Earthquake

An earlier 3.1-magnitude earthquake with a depth of 5 kilometers occurred at 4.22 am.

In a tweet, the NCS stated, “On 21-07-2023, 04:22:57 IST, Earthquake of Magnitude:3.1, Depth: 5 Km, Lat: 26.67 & Long: 75.70, Jaipur, Rajasthan, is the location.”

Final Earthquake

The most recent earthquake, measuring magnitude 3.4, registered at around 4.25 am, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The NCS states that it happened at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Vasundhara Raje, a former chief minister of Rajasthan, tweeted in response to the shakes, saying, “People have felt earthquake vibrations at various locations in the state, including Jaipur. I hope everyone is secure.”

In a tweet, Rajasthan’s minister of tourism and civil aviation, Murari Lal Meena, wrote, “Earthquake in Jaipur. I hope everyone is secure.”

Jaipur citizen’s reaction to recent Earthquakes

Another local, Jahnvi Sharma, posted a video of the earthquake. “What a terrifying morning to experience an earthquake of that size in Jaipur,” she remarked. Another Jaipur resident, Rameshwar Singh, shared a CCTV video of the earthquake in Jaipur.

In the meantime, a user of Twitter mocked the situation by writing, “Jaipur rejoicing the achievements of Oppenheimer in India too quickly.”
