Tight security

Security personnel used lathi charges to scatter a sizable crowd trying to enter the Howrah counting center.

Several counting centers, including Bagnan in Howrah, Golsi in East Burdwan, and Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas, are reportedly experiencing high levels of tension due to allegations that the opposition candidates’ representatives had no way of getting into the booths.

Counting of votes

According to a poll panel official quoted by Live Hindustan, there will be six phases to the vote counting. Reports state that the officials will first count the votes of the Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad, followed by the Votes of the gram panchayats. The counting will most likely continue until late at night.

The state election commission website has crashed as the West Bengal panchayat elections vote totals get tallied. The message states, “The service is not available.”

A total of 5.67 crore people who reside in rural areas of the state can vote for 2.06 lakh candidates for 73,887 panchayat seats.

When discussing pre-election violence with the media, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose said, “There will be a constant struggle against rising violence in Bengal. The day they are born will be a curse for those who use violence in the field. The lawbreakers and goons will face a heavy hand from all authorities.”
