Anantnag Encounter – 3 Security Personal including Colonel Manpreet Singh Martyred


Colonel Manpreet Singh, a second-generation Grewal officer, was killed in an encounter with terrorists in J&K’s Anantnag region. He was injured in the gun battle and later passed away. Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat and Major Ashish Dhonack also martyred. Singh served in the Army for 17 years and earned the Sena Medal for valor in 2021.

He spent nearly five years in the military with the same battalion of Rashtriya Rifles. He recently received a gallantry award from the Army. The attack occurred a day after a shootout in Rajouri, Jammu, resulting in the deaths of an Army soldier and Kent, a six-year-old Labrador, and injuries of three security personnel.

Information of Col. Manpreet Singh’s death was initially not given to his wife, who is a lecturer in the Haryana education department.

An encounter with terrorists in Anantnag

One of the jawans killed in an encounter with terrorists that began on Tuesday night in J&K‘s Anantnag region was Colonel Manpreet Singh of Mohali. On Wednesday morning, the operation took place under Colonel Singh’s battalion. He got hurt badly in the gun battle. He later passed away from his wounds. Both Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat and Major Ashish Dhonack passed away.

Col. Manprret Singh Spoke to his family earlier that day

On Wednesday morning, Colonel Singh last spoke with his family. He said he would talk later because he was busy at the time. The “later” never materialized because, by the afternoon, when his family members learned that the Colonel passed away, an atmosphere of sadness was hanging in his village.

The 12th Sikh LI’s Colonel Manpreet Singh earned the Sena medal. Dhonack was a member of the 15th Sikh LI. Virender Gill, Manpreet Singh’s brother-in-law, reported speaking with Manpreet at 6.45 a.m. Gill stated that the man promised to talk later. Two children, a two-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son, with Manpreet’s wife and mother, will continue to live.

According to his brother-in-law, who last spoke, he was busy because the operation was already underway. The family learned that he got hurt during the procedure in the afternoon. After learning of his passing, the family still told his wife the same thing.

Manpreet served in the Army for 17 years. He was a second-generation Grewal officer. Col. Manpreet Singh defeated terrorists in J&K in 2021, earning him the Sena Medal for valor. Col. Singh spent nearly five years in the military with the same battalion of Rashtriya Rifles, the first three as the second-in-command and the last two as the commanding officer.

In the Haryana education department, his wife, Jagmeet Grewal, teaches. The Army recently presented him with a gallantry award. In four months, his employment with the Rashtriya Rifles would end.

About a shootout

The attack occurred a day after a shootout south of the Pir Panjal at Rajouri in the Jammu region resulted in the deaths of an Army soldier and Kent, a six-year-old female Labrador from the Army’s dog unit, and the injuries of three security personnel.
