Recently, Naseeruddin Shah gave his opinion on the box office success of Adah Sharma’s The Kerala Story and the Sunny Deol-starring film Gadar 2. The seasoned actor criticized the films, which came out this year, and claimed that “jingoism” is now a commodity.

Anil Sharma, the director of Gadar 2, also addressed Naseeruddin’s comment. According to a report by ETimes, actor Nana Patekar is now reacting to Naseeruddin Shah’s remarks. The Naseeruddin Shah remark on Gadar 2 and The Kashmir Files “hurt” Anil Sharma and Pallavi Joshi.

According to ETimes, Nana reportedly remarked, “Did you request Naseer (Naseeruddin Shah) what the term “nationalist” implies for him? I think that being nationalistic and loving your country are both beneficial things. Gadar is the kind of movie where that kind of plot belongs. I can’t comment on The Kerala Story because I haven’t seen it.

In an interview, Naseeruddin Shah recently discussed the types of films produced in Bollywood. Now that you are more jingoistic, you evolve more popular because this is what has been governing this country, he had said. It’s not enough to love your nation: you need to invent fictitious foes. These people are doing something very harmful, which they are unaware of.

He continued, “It’s troubling that movies like Kashmir Files are so enormously popular while films by Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha, and Hansal Mehta, attempting to portray the truth of their times, don’t get noticed. Movies like The Kerala Story and Gadar 2; I haven’t seen them, but I know what they are about. But these filmmakers must keep working and keep telling stories.

About Gadar 2 and The Kerala Story

Gadar 2 is the second part of the 2001 movie Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. In the film, Sunny Deol depicts the truck driver Tara Singh, and Ameesha Patel portrays Sakeena. Gadar 2 follows Tara Singh as he risks crossing the border in an audacious effort to free his son Charanjeet Singh, who appears to be held captive in Pakistan.

The Kerala Story, a film directed and written by Sudipto Sen, debuted in May with Adah Sharma, Siddhi Idnani, Sonia Balani, and Yogita Bihani in the lead roles. The terrorist organization ISIS allegedly forced over 32,000 women from Kerala to become Muslims and recruited them.
