Pathaan became the first Bollywood film to earn more than 400 crore in India, with its January release bringing in Rs 543 crore. Gadar 2 by Sunny Deol crossed a crucial threshold on Thursday. The movie surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan’s Hindi box office earnings, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi movie ever in India.
SRK reclaimed the top spot with Jawan on Friday
The joyous occasion was temporary for Anil Sharma’s Gadar 2, as Shah Rukh Khan quickly recovered the top spot with their subsequent film, Jawan, which dethroned Gadar 2 on Friday.
Pathaan became the first Bollywood film to earn more than 400 crore
The January release of Pathaan brought in Rs 543 crore in India. The highest amount ever for a Hindi film, Rs 524 crore, comes from the Hindi version. It was the first Bollywood movie to gross over 400 crore, let alone 500 crore. Baahubali 2 (Rs 511 crore) and KGF Chapter 2 (Rs 435 crore) were the top two dubs at the time in terms of box office.
About Gadar 2’s earning
Gadar 2, currently in its seventh week, made Rs. 45 lakh on Thursday, bringing its total to Rs. 524.75 crore, or Rs. 30 lakhs more than Pathaan’s final earnings. It became the highest-grossing Hindi movie in India as a result. Around Rs 530 crore is the estimated final gross for the film.
Jawan dethroned Gadar 2 in just 24 hours
However, on Friday, Shah Rukh Khan’s most recent film, Jawan, surpassed Gadar 2 from the first spot in just one day. On Friday, Jawan made Rs 4 crore, bringing its total in Hindi to Rs 528 crore, surpassing Gadar 2 and Pathaan.
The movie is still doing well and will likely surpass Rs 550 crore. Even more remarkable is that Jawan’s net earnings from its dubbed versions total Rs 57 crore. No Hindi film in history has ever made even half that amount.
International collection
Unlike Gadar 2, Jawan and Pathaan both had successful international runs. Gadar 2’s overseas earnings are $8 million, but both SRK films earned over $40 million each. Jawan’s global earnings are now approaching Rs 1030 crore, closing in on Pathaan’s record of Rs 1050 crore. It should surpass that threshold over the weekend and exceed all previous Indian films’ annual gross.
