Kangana Ranaut’s counter-complaint against Javed Akhtar

Kangana Ranaut opened a counter-complaint against lyricist Javed Akhtar for alleged “extortion and illegal intimidation,” a Mumbai court demanded that he show up. According to a PTI report, the court stated when it summoned him for trial on August 5 that there was adequate evidence to proceed against him for the offenses of criminal intimidation and actions or acts aimed at hurting a woman’s modesty.

When Kangana claimed in an interview that Javed assaulted her after inviting her to his house during her ugly argument with Hrithik Roshan over their asserted affair in 2020, Javed submitted a complaint against Kangana. After that, Kangana brought a counterclaim against Javed Akhtar.

Observations of the court

On July 24, Metropolitan Magistrate (Andheri court) R M Shaikh issued Javed Akhtar a summons, requesting that he appear in court on August 5. The court stated in its summons that there was no evidence of extortion against the lyricist. A written apology request will not fall under the concept of “valuable protection,” as stated in section 30 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to the statement. It is because no new legal rights emerge, raised, transmitted, constrained, extinguished, or discharged.

According to the court, “as far as additional charges against the defendant pertain, this is on the grounds of allegations in the complaint, confirmation of the complainant, and assertion of her (Kangana’s) sister Rangoli Chandel.”

In addition, the court stated, “I have concluded that there are adequate reasons for proceeding against the suspect for offenses under IPC sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (gestures or behaves aimed at mocking the modesty of a woman).”

About the case

Following the purported suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Javed claimed in a complaint filed in 2020 that Kangana criticized him during an interview while speaking to a “coterie” that existed in Bollywood.

Then, Kangana accused Javed of “extortion and illegal intimidation” in the same court in a counter-complaint. She complained that the lyricist had called her and her sister Rangoli to his house after arguing with her Krrish 3 co-star with “malafide desires and ulterior motives” and then “criminally scared and threatened” her.
